Gun Control

This idea has been debated over by politicians and U.S. citizens for quite sometime. Before I share with you my thoughts on the matter, let me summarize the 2013 Gun Control Proposal made by President Barack Obama and how it would affect the law-abiding citizens of the U.S..

This bill will require background checks for all gun sales and strengthens the background check system. This would include removing barriers under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act so that states may more freely share information about mental health issues involving potential gun purchasers. It will also ban military-style assault weapons and limits magazines to 10 rounds. This bill is also said to provide safety for children at schools.

These are just three of the many things that this bill covers. If you want to see more, visit this site:

Does this bill necessarily guarantee safety for U.S. citizens in general?
NO, it DOESN'T

Citizens of the U.S. can still buy and sell pistols and other guns that are NOT military style weapons (not that anybody but U.S. soldiers would use) privately. Consider the following scenario as an example:

In Chicago, there are many gangs. One of the gangs' jobs/interests are to make money. After this Gun Control bill/proposal becomes a law (if it ever will), a gang leader or member may decide to privately sell guns to make money.

Do you believe that a law-abiding citizen that rarely breaks the law would privately buy a gun?

I think NOT.

What about a person who is planning to perform a shooting, or, commit a homicide? Would this person privately buy a gun? Chances are, if he wants to bad enough, or, if he was already a convicted criminal, he would.

Does a person need an assault weapon to start a mass shooting?

NO. In fact, a week ago, in Lexington, KY, a man walks into a bowling alley and shot at people with a PISTOL. In this shooting, there were five casualties: 1dead; 4injured.

Do people necessarily need a gun to perform a mass murder?

NO. Knifes can be used as well. For example, in March, a man walks into a Target in Pennsylvania and stabs multiple people. Also, in China, a man walks into a school and stabs 22 students.

May I ask again: Does gun control laws guarantee safety of law-abiding citizens?

After doing my research, hearing debates over it, and hearing of casualties due to mass shootings, I shall conclude that the guns are NOT the problem, the people are.

Think about it: If we did this, we would be endangering citizens that abide by the laws just because of a law that can be avoided by criminals.
